A few weeks back I planned on going for a ride on my Bicycle but when I got to the garage I found that the lock was cut and the bike was stolen. With no bike I then went to my car and found that my radio had been stolen as well.
As I thought about my misfortune, it reminded me of a story I recently read in "Today is Your Day to Win" by Mike Brescia.
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally he decided the animal was very old and the well needed to be covered up anyway. And since it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey, he invited all his neighbors to come over and help him.
They all grabbed shovels and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well and was astonished at what he saw.
With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off!
Let me ask you a question are you likely to get some dirt thrown on you as you move forward in life? Probably!
One of the keys to achieving your goals is recognizing that you will face challenges. How you respond to these challenges will ultimately reflect on your character. You have a choice you can either struggle with it (and whine) or you can strive to find a solution.
Now think about some of the barriers you have to accomplishing one of your top of list goals. Will you struggle with it or strive to overcome it?
